The last weekend in June, just after the summer solstice when the days started to become shorter again, Johannes and Leslie came for a visit to Oslo. For once we didn't go to the mountains, but instead rented tomato-red sea kayaks and paddled along the scattered Swedish "Grebbestad" archipelago. The islands are a fantastic mix of small desolated rock humps, and bigger islands with proper vegetation and even some holiday homes on it. But they all have in common the roundish and smoothed stones that appear to be so typical for the area.
The sea was very quiet and calm when we packed our kayaks and started paddling. No wind or boat to rock the kayaks, just the sea, we, the lonely islands, and a beautiful orange-pink sunset. We found a lovely beach to pitch the tents and stay for the night. It was hard to go to sleep though, as it wasn't getting dark at all... .
Our second day out with the kayaks was a bit different - and the lack of any pictures might just say enough. The sea was rough, wind was blowing, and as if this wouldn't be enough to bring the tiny red kayaks close to capsize, there was also lots of boat traffic to cause waves. Nevertheless we enjoyed the rough sea and paddled almost the whole day against wind and currents - but we were also incredibly happy when we were back on land without any major accidents :)
Es isch mega schön gsi mit euch! Merci!!
