There it is! Spring in Oslo! The sun is finally high enough to not only provide some light, but also warmth. The many migrating birds returned and started to court with unmistakable chirping and twittering for mates. The snow is slowly melting and spring flowers begin to break through the fallen leaves and color the forest floor! Hach...!
Time to get out the short trousers, dust and lubrify the mountain bikes, and get ready for this year's first bike tour (årets første sykkeltur)!
There is still a lot of icy snow in the hills of the Nordmarka (the forest north of Oslo), so we chose to stay at sea level and followed Oslo's Kyststien - the coastal path. We began the ride on well-known tracks down to the Bygdøy peninsula, where we started to follow Kyststien on the western side of the peninsula. We followed the coastline as much as possible - but sometimes private houses, gardens, museums, or steep cliffs made it impossible. After having circled Bygdøy, we continued to Fornebu, another peninsula further south-west in the fjord. Recent heavy development has turned the eastern side of the peninsula, a former airport-area, into a collection of fancy buildings and constructions with nicely arranged parks and playgrounds. In contrast, on the western side two arms of Fornebu are nature reserve to protect wildlife along the coastline. We also circled Fornebu, had a short nap at the beach, and then took the fast track along normal roads back home.
It was the perfect first trip and made hungry for more!
